Trends in groundwater temperature

Against the background of the discussion on the effects of climate change, the data on groundwater temperatures for the period 1997 to 2009 were examined for changes. 71 of the 128 bodies of groundwater were analysed for the trend assessment. It was shown that a significant increase in temperature of about 0.7 °C occurred in more than half of the investigated groundwater bodies. The results correlate with the development of the air temperature, which is why groundwater temperatures will have to be expected to rise in the coming decades. It is known that even small-scale factors influence the development of groundwater temperature. However, a direct link could not be established in the context of this work.
