The increasing emergence of multi-resistant bacteria in health-care settings, in the community and in the environment represents a major health threat worldwide. In 2016 the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety started a pilot project to investigate AMR (antimicrobial resistance) in surface water. Here we report on the isolation and characterisation of a extended-spectrum β –lactamase/ carbapenem resistant K. pneumoniae ST11 isolated from the river Danube, Austria.
