Entrances and gates to buildings in the centre of Helsinki

The material consists mainly of the entrances and gates of buildings located in the centre of Helsinki as described on the map. Most of the data was collected in batches in summer 2020 and 2021, but the material has also been continuously updated with minor changes since early 2020. The data includes approximately 13000 entrances and 2000 gates location and characteristics, as well as their photographs. In addition to the location, address and access data (wheelchair accessibility, public/private entrance, existence of a doorbell/gate code, gate height restrictions, etc.) have been collected. The data have been collected with smartphones in the street environment and the locations of the data points have been manually specified according to the phone’s positioning and reference points in the terrain; the data therefore describes the situation 2021-22 with an estimated accuracy of approximately 2-3 metres. The data was collected for the more accurate navigation of the last meters for the logistics industry, in particular to support the Gatesolve route guide of the last meters. The material is not completely comprehensive in any area, but as far as the centre is concerned, as far as Etu-Töölö and Kallio, most of the blocks have been mapped; there are individual mapped areas outside the centre area. Approximately half of the data have also been exported to OpenStreetMap in terms of location and characteristics. Through OpenStreetMap, the information is also available when searching for an entrance via HSL’s Route Guide or Digitransit geocoding service. The material and photographs are licensed under a CC0 license; However, when used through OSM, it is subject to an ODbL license.
