Reasons for the European Super League in the UK 2021

First announced in April 2021, the European Super League was a controversial planned soccer competition to be contested among a select group of 20 clubs from across the European domestic leagues. Many fans, pundits, and players have spoken out against the proposed league, stating that the new setup would be against the competitive nature of the current leagues and competitions, and that it was a "closed shop" to enable some of Europe's richest clubs to get even richer through lucrative media and sponsorship deals. During an April 2021 survey in the United Kingdom, around 89 percent of football fans believed that the formation of the European Super League was motivated by more of a desire for financial gain by the clubs joining the league rather than a desire from football fans for such a league.
