Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis strain:3NA Genome sequencing. Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis strain:3NA

The strain is used for heterologous gene expression and high cell density fermentation. Due to mutations the strain produces no spores, no antibiotics and low amounts of extracellular proteases. Dispite the fact that the strain was characterized as non-transfomable we found comparable transfomation frequencies to Bacillus subtilis 168. The strain reaches high cell densities during fed-batch fermentation. Thus, it is an interesting strain for biotechnology.
