Sensitization to food allergens can occur through damaged skin barrier. In this project, the genetic background of two different mouse strains and gut microbiota were studied to observe their impact on the manifestation of allergic diseases in mice. A model of adjuvant-free epicutaneous sensitization and food allergy (FA) was employed. Specific-pathogen-free (SPF: BALB/c; C57BL/6) mice were epicutaneously sensitized and challenged to ovalbumin (OVA) or by intragastric gavage and the development of FA symptoms and changes in microbiota were investigated.
