Seismic evidence for metasomatism in a great continental strike-slip fault system

The Tanlu Fault Zone (TLFZ) is a great trans-lithospheric strike-slip fault system in East China, but its slip mechanisms and compositional heterogeneity remain enigmatic. In this study, we analyze seismic anisotropy structure of the lithospheric mantle beneath the TLFZ by incorporating 3-D anisotropic tomography, SKS splitting, mineralogical, geochemical, geothermal evidence. We hypothesis that the alignment of phlogopite induced by mantle metasomatism is the cause of non-elliptical anisotropy in the TLFZ mantle.
