Replication Data for: ECHOES OF PEACE: UNCOVERING MEDIATION NARRATIVES IN THE ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR

This study explores the complex interplay of mediation narratives surrounding the 2021 Israel-Hamas conflict. We aim to demonstrate how text analytics techniques can enhance our understanding of these narratives, their impact on public opinion, and their potential role in conflict resolution. We analyze a corpus of 962 English news articles from prominent Western outlets published between October 2023 and March 2024, focusing on mediation efforts undertaken by Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Our robust methodology combines data collection, preprocessing, sentiment analysis, and topic modeling to examine the nuances of these narratives. Our research reveals that mediation narratives are not neutral accounts, but rather strategically constructed and contested by various actors. This research contributes significantly to the understanding of strategic narratives in international relations. By focusing on the dynamics of mediation narratives, we highlight the complex interplay between language, narrative, and conflict resolution.
