General government expenditure by expenditure function

In national accounts, defence data are included in the expenditure of public administrations (State, local authorities, social security bodies and their extensions) broken down by “function” or area of intervention of the public authorities. At the most aggregated level, the Functional Classification of Public Administrations (CFAP) identifies a “Defence” post as well as a “Public Order and Security” position among a dozen public policy objectives.
