Stevens of Cambria Park, Calif., who lost one arm in an auto accident nine years ago, is a finalist in the Grand National after eight unsuccessful tries. He is baking a cake. 61/62: Pretty, blonde, Mrs. Shirley A. Ravelle, of Honolulu, Hawaii, homemaker, is the mother of four daughters, and is making cookies as her entry. 80: Mrs. Ruth C. Harbeck, once of Sioux City, Iowa, was notified that she was to be a finalist while in West Germany with her Army captain husband, Garnard E. She flew to U.S. to compete. She is preparing pastry as her entry".; Caption slip continues: "79: John Stone, 14, of Junction City, Kansas, a 9th grader, is the man of the modest home he shares with his widowed mother, Mrs. Kathryn Stone. He is a self taught cook who helps his working mother with daily meal preparation. (having quite a time opening a can in l shot) shines in basketball, chooses mathematics as his favorite subject and after only 2 years experience finds himself a finalist in the bake-off.
