Metagenomic analysis of the rhizosphere of the seagrass Zostera marina

This project aimed at investigating the diversity, structure and gene content of bacterial communities involved in dissimilatory sulfur cycling in the rhizosphere of Zostera marina. By using shotgun metagenomic sequencing of rhizosphere samples collected in Portugal and France, we could also reconstruct and characterize high quality draft genomes, which contributed to the understanding of the potential metabolic versatility of microbes that inhabit the rhizosphere of seagrasses.
