The aim of this proposal is to investigate the in situ reactive sintering of alumina and magnesia powders to form improved spinel-based and ultra-low cement content refractory ceramics used in the steel industry at temperatures up to 1500°C. We will focus on the shape and crystallographic nature of the alumina in the reactive process.
