Here, we performed a cross-species transcriptomic comparison to identify differentially expressed genes and ultimately elucidate the molecular translatability between human and rhesus placenta. For this we generated RNA-seq data from five human bulk term placental samples for comparison to previously published rhesus placenta data. Further, to enhance the accessibility of rhesus in vitro placental investigations, we established two highly-pure first-trimester hTERT-immortalized rhesus trophoblast cell lines (iRP). We generated RNA-seq data from both iRP-D26 and iRP-D28A cell lines, as well as rhesus primary trophoblasts (RPT) in order to compare the overall transcriptomic profiles of immortalized and primary rhesus trophoblasts.
