Dissolved and particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in seawater from CTD Data from T/S Oshoro maru 2023 Arctic Cruise / C145

Particulate and dissolved phases of 15 L seawater sample were separated by filtration through 0.5 micro m glass-fiber filters. Dissolved organic compounds, including PAHs, were concentrated using C18 solid-phase extraction disks. Phase partitioning and concentration of dissolved phase were conducted just after water sampling. Dissolved and particulate PAHs were respectively extracted from the glass-fiber filters using an ultrasonic method and eluted from the C18 disks with dichloromethane. Dimethyl sulfoxide was added to both extracted solutions, the dichloromethane was evaporated to dryness, and the residue of dimethyl sulfoxide was dissolved in acetonitrile. 14 PAHs with 3-6 rings in the samples were quantified using the HPLC system (Shimadzu co., Ltd.) with a fluorescence detector to investigate the distribution of phase partitioning PAHs in seawater of the Bering and Chukchi Seas.
