Study of office paper methanization in thermophilic conditions. Cellulose is the most abundant renewable biopolymer on earth. Due to its structure, it is also recalcitrant to degradation. Methanization bioprocesses aiming at recovering energy from cellulosic materials (e.g. those contained in household waste) will thus benefit from an increased basic knowledge about cellulose degradation by complex microbial communities. The sample was extracted from a laboratory anaerobic batch microcosm containing office paper and a synthetic buffer, incubated in thermophilic conditions and inoculated with a stabilized digestate originating from a thermophilic municipal solid waste digester. Sampling at day 60 (62% of the carbon from the office paper degraded).
