资源简介:
This collection comprises images, reports, and site records from a scheme of works on the land off Bullamoor Road and Scholla Lane, Turker Beck and Sun Beck, Northallerton, North Yorkshire. This work was undertaken by Allen Archaeology between October 2012 and November 2013 in advance of proposed flood alleviation works. Geophysical survey reavealed anomalies of potential archaeological interest, while trial trenching at Turker Beck indicated that the site was devoid of any deposits of archaeological significance. However, the evaluation highlighed the potential for the survival of potentially significant palaeoenvironmental deposits. An auger survey was performed and peat was identified that was dated between 12500 and 11000 BP, a period during which there is clear evidence for human occupation of the wider region. Such late glacial environmental sequences are rare in the region and represent an important source of environmental evidence which merits further detailed investigation.
