Vulnerable zones nitrates in force in Burgundy-Franche-Comté at the end of the 2021 revision

Zoning at the municipal and infra-municipal levels resulting from the assembly of zonings in force at the regional level (zonings based on the decrees designating municipalities and sub-municipal delimitation including the amending decrees for the RM basins of 23/09/2021 and LB of 15/11/2021 and 06/06/2024). The source data are the Prefectural Orders made by the Basin Coordinating Prefects on the three basins that cover the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. The revision of the vulnerable zones following the 7th nitrate monitoring campaign - which took place between 1 October 2018 and 30 September 2019 and concerns both surface and groundwater - was carried out in the third quarter of 2020 and the first half of 2021. The obligation to define nitrate vulnerable zones results from the application of Directive 91/676/EEC of 12 December 1991 on the prevention and reduction of nitrates of agricultural origin, which requires each Member State to define ‘vulnerable zones’ in which waters are polluted or liable to be polluted by nitrates of agricultural origin.
