This project is about the scientific analyses of the continuous seismic dataset from the Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic survey acquired over the Gorgon Gas Field. This survey was the first commercial OBN seismic survey of Australia funded by Chevron and its partners. OBN surveys are in general expensive to acquire, but also offers unprecedented opportunities Because of the large spatial extent (over 3000 sampled points), and also continuous nature of the dataset (approx. 70 Tb data), it offers unique scientific opportunities that will be tackled by the members of Deep Earth Imaging FSP (DEI) and wider CSIRO. These activities are in the domains of full waveform inversion, passive seismology, and joint seismic inversion. In each of the activity, the aim is to increase our understanding of the subsurface. Initially, we planned the following activities: 1. Test DEI’s recently developed 2D Bayesian Full Waveform Seismic Inversion algorithm. 2. Use P and S wavefields in a joint Bayesian inversion setting to investigate the feasibility of the approach. 3. Test seismic noise and scattered wavefield cross and autocorrelations to retrieve the response of the earth beneath the array. T 4. Retrieve and use Scholte waves as a constraint for inverting S wave velocity with bathymetry. 5. Check the imprint of regional seismic events originated from Indonesia and surroundings across the seismic array and investigate the use of it for gross-scale deep seismic imaging.
