Enrolment of pupils in special education (01-08-2008-01-08-2014)

The Law on Expertise Centres (WEC) offers the possibility to place children with disabilities at a school for regular primary or secondary education. This is accompanied by student-related funding to enable special facilities in education (the so-called backpack). This file contains pupils who attend special education, and not the pupils who are only supervised from special education (and are therefore in regular primary or secondary education). The file therefore contains all pupils who have enrolment in special education or secondary special education in a school year. Although almost all pupils have only 1 enrolment, it may happen that a student had more than one in a school year. However, only one enrolment per student is included in this file, namely the main registration on 1 October. The following pupils are not (so) in the database:- pupils in special primary education (primary education with additional guidance from their own school); — primary school pupils who are supervised from a special education school; — secondary school pupils who are supervised from a secondary special education school. Pupils in special education are usually under 13 years of age, pupils in secondary special education are usually 13 years or older.Learners in (secondary) special education are divided into 4 clusters: — Cluster 1 visual limitations; — Cluster 2 auditory and communicative disabilities;- Cluster 3 physical and intellectual disabilities;- Cluster 4 severe developmental disorders. As of 2010/'11, schools are funded on the basis of the educational number files and the files are complete. ### Population Each record is equal to a pupil with valid enrolment in (continued) special education.
