Portraits of Auguste Victoria, German Empress (1858-1921)

Auguste Victoria Luise Feodora Jenny, German Empress and Queen of Prussia, was born in 1858 as Princess of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg Augustenburg in Dolzing (Lower Lusatia). She spent several years in Kiel as a teenager before moving with her mother and siblings to Primkenau in 1869 to her father Friedrich VIII, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. She married Prince William of Prussia in 1881. After his ascension to the throne, Auguste Victoria became German Empress and Queen of Prussia in 1888. When the Empire collapsed in the course of the 1918/19 revolution and had to abdicate Wilhelm II, she followed her husband into Dutch exile and died a few years later from a heart condition.
