Melanoplus sanguinipes de novo transcriptome assembly

The migratory grasshopper, Melanoplus sanguinipes (Fabricius) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), is one of the most destructive rangeland pests in the United States. As its name implies, they can migrate long distances under outbreak conditions and can feed both on crops and grasslands, causing significant economic and ecological losses. This project aims to sequence and assembles the de novo transcriptome of the Melanoplus sanguinipes. For that, the specimens were collected from Graham County, Arizona, and three adult females were used for the tissue-specific transcriptomes from the head, thorax, and abdomen.
