The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute Pathogen Sequencing Unit has undertaken the sequencing of the Plasmodium berghei genome, which has an estimated size of 25-27 Mb and is comprised of 14 chromosomes. DNA for this partial shotgun sequencing project was obtained from asynchronous bloodstages of clone 15cy1 of the ANKA strain of P. berghei. The Plasmodium berghei whole genome shotgun (WGS) project has the project accession CAAI00000000. The current version of the project (01) has the accession number CAAI01000000, and consists of sequences CAAI01000001-CAAI01007479. This initial version is a low coverage genome assembly containing automated annotation and should be analyzed and interpreted with these caveats. The sequence and assembly have been released in this preliminary state by the Sanger Institute for the benefit of the scientific community.
