Bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA gene survey from the Australian paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus

In this pilot study, six Australian paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus) were collected off a single host (dog). DNA was isolated from equal tick halves using two commercial DNA extractions and we sequenced the DNA at two 16S rRNA hypervariable gene regions (V1-V3 and V3-V4). The purpose of this study was to assess and determine which combination of DNA isolation kit and 16S rRNA hypervariable region allowed for more comprehensive results and greater bacterial diversity.
