VPRS 5138 Papers from the Select Committee of the Legislative Council on the State Coal Mine

This series is a collection of papers related to the Select Committee of the Legislative Council on the State Coal Mine. This Committee was appointed in after a motion by the Hon RHS Abbott, to inquire into the working of the State Coal Mine, the expenditure already incurred and proposed, and the position of leaseholders in the Government township of Wonthaggi. To gather information, the Select Committee held public meetings, examined witnesses, inspected the State Coal Mine and called for papers from various sources.This series consists of several copies of a bundle of papers, which appear to have been presented to each Member of the Legislative Council on the Select Committee. The name of the Member is written on the cover sheet of the bundle, as well as the contents within. Other bundles in this series contain routine correspondence, rough drafts, accounts, papers, reports and plans.
