1969年,第一个近红外巡天计划-TMSS(两微米巡天计划)扫描了70%的天区,探测到了大约5700颗红外源。近30年后,为了缩小现代技术能力和我们对近红外天空的差距,两微米全天巡天计划(简称2MASS)开始实施。
2MASS用两架高度自动化的望远镜在三个近红外波段(J、H、K)对整个天区进行均匀的扫描,像素大小为2角秒。北天巡天开始于1997年6月,南天巡天开始于1998年3月。2001年2月整个巡天观测完成。
2MASS巡天的数据产品包括:
λ 数据化全天星图,包括大约4百万幅8´ × 16´的图像,每个波段的空间分辨率为4角秒;
λ 点源表,包括大约3亿个恒星和不明类型天体的精确位置和辐射流量数据;
λ 展源表,包括超过1百万个星系和其他星云的位置和亮度数据。
In 1969, the first near-infrared survey, the Two-Micron Sky Survey (TMSS), scanned 70% of the celestial sphere and detected approximately 5,700 infrared sources. Almost three decades later, to bridge the gap between modern technological capabilities and our understanding of the near-infrared sky, the Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) was launched.
2MASS conducted uniform scanning of the entire celestial sphere using two highly automated telescopes across three near-infrared bands (J, H, K), with a pixel scale of 2 arcseconds. The northern sky survey commenced in June 1997, while the southern sky survey started in March 1998. The entire survey was completed in February 2001.
The data products of the 2MASS survey include:
λ Digitized all-sky star maps, including approximately 4 million 8′ × 16′ images, with a spatial resolution of 4 arcseconds per band;
λ Point source catalogs, containing precise positional and radiative flux data for roughly 300 million stars and unclassified celestial objects;
λ Extended source catalogs, including positional and brightness data for over 1 million galaxies and other nebulae.
