PTCA is a minimally invasive method that allows to dilate the arteries that spread blood to cardiac structures (coronary arteries) in case they are totally or partially occluded by atherosclerotic plaques. It aims to restore adequate blood flow in a certain region of the heart muscle by avoiding the appearance of clinical events that characterise myocardial ischemia (angina, myocardial infarction).
