LICOM-L and LICOM-H DSL datasets

The LICOM2-L model has a resolution of 1° in the zonal direction and 0.5° in the meridional direction within the equatorial band from 10°S to 10°N. The meridional resolution increases to 1° in the regions from 10°S to 20°S and from 10°N to 20°N, and it remains at 1° for latitudes beyond 20°S and 20°N. The model incorporates 30 vertical levels, with the resolution increasing with depth. The LICOM2-L adopted the mesoscale eddy parameterization scheme from Gent and Mcwilliams (1990) in the temperature and salinity equations to characterize the role of mesoscale eddies. Based on the LICOM2-L, the LICOM2-H uniformly improved the horizontal resolution to 0.1°×0.1° and the vertical resolution to 55 levels (Yu et al., 2012). Compared with the physical processes of the LICOM2-L, the LICOM2-H adopted double-tuned viscosity and diffusion schemes in the horizontal momentum equation and the temperature and salinity equations, respectively.
