With high-throughput sequencing of the variable region V3-V4 of the 16S rRNA gene, the study of the full phylogenetic composition of microbial communities developed on the surface of titanium plates exposed in the water column under lighting conditions in the littoral areas of the Black Sea and the White Sea was carried out. The presence of microorganisms, which are potentially capable of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), from various physiological groups, such as sulfate-reducing bacteria, acidophilic iron-oxidizing bacteria and archaea, sulfur-oxidizing and nitrifying bacteria, was shown in the foulings.
