Inhabitants per adrespunt occupied per ha – Flanders – 2013 situation

This indicator provides an estimate of the average number of inhabitants per household per hectare. For each hectare cell, the value of the population is divided by the number of adrespints occupied (as a proxy of households) in the hectare cell. This indicator follows the same basic data as for the indicator “population density per ha” and “household density per ha”. The population dataset describes the location and the number of inhabitants per address using a point file. This file is created by Digitaal Vlaanderen (DV) from data from the Rijksregister. The location of the addresses is determined by geocoding of the addresses based on crab (crab population numbers version 0.1). As proxy for the number of households, the number of records in the dataset (i.e. number of addresses) is used for which the number of inhabitants is not equal to ‘0’ or ‘NoData (-99)’. Addresses for which the number of inhabitants is equal to 0 are addresses from the CRAB database which do not appear in the National Register and thus where no one lives. Addresses with a NoData value are those for which the number of inhabitants is not known exactly. This is the case, for example, for sub-addresses whose population in the national register is only known at home number level and not per sub-address. The total number of households in Flanders under this assumption is lower than the total number of households reported by the FPS Economy. For this difference, the dataset is adjusted at the level of municipalities based on the statistics on the number of households per municipality. For this purpose, the sum of the number of households per municipality is first made on the basis of the points file. The factor of this sum is then calculated in relation to the number of households reported by Statbel. This factor is then applied to all ador points. For example, if in a given municipality 5 % fewer households are calculated on the basis of the points file compared to the statistics, the number of households is increased by 5 % at each point location.
