PERSPECTIVES IN THE REINFORCEMENT OF UKRAINE_ GEOECONOMICS, RECONSTRUCTION AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

Abstract

This article examines Ukraine’s path to European Union integration in the context of Russia’s war of aggression and the challenges of post-war reconstruction. It argues that the EU’s decision in June 2022 to grant candidate status to Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova marked a turning point in the Eastern Partnership, creating new opportunities under a staged accession framework. Ukraine’s reconstruction, however, cannot be separated from broader questions of economic security, geoeconomics, and institutional reform. This paper analyzes instruments of Western support, including humanitarian, financial, and security-related measures, and explores the role of frozen russian assets as a potential mechanism of reparations. It concludes by outlining a framework for Ukraine’s recovery that ties reconstruction to EU accession benchmarks, anticorruption reforms, and enhanced international cooperation.
