This dataset was constructed during the NWO VICI project ‘Exploiting the Empires of Others: Dutch Investment in Foreign Colonial Resources, 1570-1800’ at Leiden University. This dataset consists of notarial deeds from the Amsterdam City Archives (3180 deeds), the Archivo Histórico de Protocolos de Madrid (11 deeds), and the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Cádiz (147 deeds). The dataset provides an overview of the participation of Amsterdam merchants in the Spanish Empire between 1590 and 1700, with a focus on the Coymans family.
