Daily total suspended solids concentrations for Texas Estuaries dervied from MODIS-Aqua Satellite reflectance

This dataset contains daily total suspended solids concentrations (TSS) in mg/l for Corpus Christi. Matagorda, and Galveston Bays. TSS data was created by combining a United States Geological Service land-product MYDGQ09 ver.5, a 500-m resolution MODIS-Aqua reflectance product, and TSS samples extracted from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Surface Water Quality Monitoring Information System (SWQMIS) database. Transformation into total suspended solids was accomplished using an exponential fit to a red – green reflectance ratio and coincident samples of SWQMIS. SWQMIS in-situ data was then filtered if the collection depth was <3 m unless TSS concentrations were greater than 50 mg/l and/or sample's chlorophyll-a concentrations were greater than 30 ug/l. Reflectance data was filtered for sunglint >0.001 (Wang and Bailey, 2001), clouds flagged in the MYD09 dataset and sensor zenith were greater than or equal to 60 degrees. The algorithm applied to the period of 2002–2014 to the aforementioned bays to create a synoptic time series. Corpus CHristi Bay TSS data was used in Reisinger et. al 2017 (Front. Mar.
