资源简介:

This article examines, on the basis of historical sources, the impact of the political repressions of 1937–1938 on the development of medicine in Uzbekistan and the intellectual losses caused by the persecution of the national medical intelligentsia. The principal objective of the study is to evaluate the consequences of political repression not merely as a human tragedy but also as a historical process that significantly hindered the institutional development of the national healthcare system and the formation of professional medical personnel. The research is based on archival documents, official records concerning political repression, and both domestic and international historiographical sources, analysed through the comparative-historical method. Particular attention is devoted to the professional activities of Hayriniso Majidkhonova, one of the representatives of the Jadid intellectual movement and among the first Uzbek women to receive a modern medical education in Germany. The study argues that her repression should be interpreted not only as the persecution of an individual but also as the loss of considerable intellectual capital that could have substantially contributed to the modernization of Uzbekistan’s healthcare system. Political repression interrupted the transfer of medical knowledge, scientific experience, international academic cooperation, and institutional continuity. The scientific novelty of this research lies in its interdisciplinary interpretation of political repression through the perspectives of the history of medicine, intellectual history, and human capital theory. Furthermore, the article introduces and substantiates several new conceptual approaches, including “Jadid Medical Modernization,” “Lost Intellectual Heritage,” “Interrupted Institutional Heritage,” and “Intellectual Repression.” The findings provide an important theoretical foundation for future studies on the history of medicine in Uzbekistan, the Jadid movement, political repression, modernization processes, and the intellectual history of Central Asia.
