The study aims to investigate and evaluate definitional characteristics of the hidden curriculum in institutionalized educational processes. Based on a systematic literature search, a total of 23 relevant scientific articles were identified, which are analyzed in more detail with respect to the following categories: (1) group norms, (2) group roles and role attributes, (3) media for transmission and compliance with norms, (4) effects of the hidden curriculum, and (5) coping with mechanisms and effects of the hidden curriculum.
