Sorting and recycling of plastic waste in Austria. Main part.

The new framework, as defined by the European Commission’s Plastics Strategy and the Circular Economy Package, sets higher rates for recycling and preparing for re-use of plastic waste (at least 50 %) and plastic packaging waste (at least 55 %) by 2030. The report provides a compilation of the current mass flows and realised technical plant concepts for the sorting and treatment of plastic waste in Austria. It also includes the assessment of plant operators on relevant drivers and barriers to strengthening plastic recycling. In 2018, in addition to twelve plants for sorting, a total of 25 plants for the recycling of plastic waste were available in Austria. Detailed descriptions of selected installations are available in the annex to the report.
