Mortality due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in men in the Basque Country (1996-2003)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (CCI-9: 490-492, 494, 496 and CIE10: J40-J44, J47)* was the fourth leading cause of death among men and accounted for 6 % of all deaths. During the years 1990-2004 their mortality decreased annually by 1.9 %. The regions with the highest mortality are distributed in the three territories * Codes according to the Classification of International Diseases Ninth revision (CIE-9) for the years 1996 to 1998 and the tenth (ICD-10) for the years 1999 to 2003.
