This series is composed of records detailing surveys undertaken by surveyors employed by the water authorities. They include field notes folders, which are in a file format, and the various types of survey books used by surveyors in the conduct of their duties: field books, distance meter field books, level books, tacheometer survey and level books and cross section books.The records relate to surveys carried out on dams and weirs; rivers, creeks, lakes and billabongs; canals, drains, channels and syphons; bores and tanks; roads and bridges; land portions; contour surveys, including those of farms and villages; subdivisions; pumping stations; irrigation areas; storage sites; and Aboriginal land claims.In terms of when exactly surveys were conducted, the dates provided in the item lists should be taken as a guide only. In compiling the lists, the agency was not consistent in how dating was applied. Dates quoted include: date signed by the surveyor, date of transmission, month of survey, month the survey commenced and the plan room stamp date.
