VPRS 16739 Staff Clinic Patient Histories

This series contains the extant remanent of patient history records of staff treated at the Women's Hospital from 1931 to 1958.This series consists of loose folios, comprising the patient history sheet with attached correspondence and diagnostic test results.The records relate to both clinical and administrative staff admitted either for in-house treatment or treated as out patients. The range of staff ailments was diverse and not restricted to obstetric or gynaecological problems. The histories include staff accidents like falling off a tram, as well as routine infections and conditions.The treating doctor was the Medical Superintendent who from the 1950s ran a daily staff clinic. This clinic appears to have started in 1920 when the first incumbent was appointed.The Medical Superintendents during this time were: Dr. R.G. Worcester (1931-1933); Dr. A.M. Hill (1933-1935); Dr. J.W. Johnstone 1935-1936); Dr. D.F. Lawson (1936-1938); Dr. R. McK. Rome(1938-1940); Dr M. Mackie (1940-1946); Dr. C.K. Churches (1946-1948); Dr. G Ley (1948); Dr W.D. Refschauge (1948-1951); Dr J.C. Laver (1952-1969).Series HistoryThis series was not registered within the RWH Archives. They were not part of hospital patient records but hospital staff patient records which were managed separately.
