Calcutta High Court Judgments Summarization Dataset

This is a dataset of 20,273 judgments from the oldest Indian High Court, the Calcutta High Court. It comprises of judgments accompanied by their summaries in the English Language. This dataset has been curated for evaluation of existing AI-based models on the task of Automated Text Summarization of legal judgments. Its focus on judgments from the Calcutta High Court, India, enables models to learn the nuances of legal language, and specific terminologies inherent in case judgments pertaining to second-highest level of Indian judiciary. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first automated legal text summarization dataset comprising judgments (along with their reference summaries) passed by the Calcutta High Court, India.
