A mild and effective synthesis of resorcinol−urfural(RF) thermosetting resin wasproposed with ethanol as adistinctive solvent, which, as a usually neglected factor, wasshown to not only help form a homogeneous reaction system butalso observably reduce the energy barriers between the earlyintermediates and transition states in addition reactions by explicitsolvent effects, drawn from theoretical calculation conclusions.
