Background According to many researchers, the period of engagement and the first years of marriage are crucial periods in the family. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of premarital education based on the differentiated attachment model on the communication skills and conflict resolution skills of candidates. Method The statistical population comprised all candidates referred to the counseling center of Kharazmi University of Tehran for pre-marital counseling in the first half of 2024. Forty individuals (20 couples) were randomly selected from this population and assigned to either the experimental group (20 individuals) or the control group (20 individuals). Premarital education, based on the attachment-differentiation model by Dell’Isola et al. (2021), was administered to the experimental group. To collect data, the research tools included the Conflict Resolution Questionnaire (ROCI-II) and the Communication Patterns of Couples Questionnaire (CPQ). Results The findings show that according to the F value and the significance level of the value obtained in the variable of communication skills (P≤0.001; F=12.57) and conflict resolution skills (P<0.001; F=33.74), it can be concluded that the independent variable, i.e., premarital education based on the attachment-differentiation model, significantly changes the dependent variables (communication skills and conflict resolution skills). Conclusion Based on the findings, it can be concluded that premarital education using the ADPM model is effective in enhancing candidates' communication and conflict resolution skills. Therefore, this model can be utilized in premarital counseling.
