Source data for mud budget calculations for Barataria Bay, Louisiana: Land loss (1932-2016), soil properties (2006-2009), suspended sediment concentration (1971-1990), and daily discharge data (2006-2019)

The dataset contains raw and processed data obtained from public sources used to parameterize a semi-analytical model applied to Barataria Bay, Louisiana, to study the mud exchange between the basin and the nearshore region. Marsh and bay area maps from 1932 and 2016 were analyzed to calculate land loss using Matlab. Mineral content and dry bulk density of marsh soil were calculated using data from 40 sites in middle to lower Barataria Bay between 2006 and 2009. Raw suspended sediment concentration data was extracted for 1971 to 1990 at Point a la Hache, Louisiana (29.57105N, -89.797301). Daily discharge data at Naomi, Louisiana (29.69911N, -89.98886) for 2006 to 2019 were obtained, and annual mean and median discharge was calculated. In addition to the raw images and point measurements, the dataset also includes the Matlab script used for analysis and the land mask and processed images it produces.
