Database Fotografico Macrosismico (DFM)

The DFM (in Italian, Database Fotografico Macrosismico) makes publicly available a photographic archive of great scientific relevance created by INGV personnel involved in the activities of the seismic emergency operational group called QUEST. Under the acronym QUEST (QUick Earthquake Survey Team; https://quest.ingv.it/) works a team of experts dedicated to the post-earthquake macroseismic survey that has the task of providing, quickly and univocally, the picture of the effects in the area affected by a seismic event. The DFM is a vast online photographic archive consisting of photographs of the effects of the earthquake on buildings, artifacts and on the environment that are the result of a long activity of investigations and macroseismic surveys from approximately the end of 70s of last century. In addition to the goal of preserving the large amount of photographs collected over the years, DFM assign to each described effect a macroseismic intensity estimate based on the EMS-98 scale (European Macroseismic Scale 1998, Grünthal et al., 1998), a choice that was guided by the desire to make DFM usable both by seismologists and engineers, and by a more generic user.
