Digital Transformation and Family Firm Internationalization: Evidence from China

his dataset contains firm-level panel data for 1,116 Chinese A-share listed family firms over the period 2012–2022, yielding 9,666 firm-year observations. The data were compiled primarily from the China Stock Market and Accounting Research (CSMAR) Database, supplemented by historical statistical yearbooks for the instrumental variable construction. The dataset includes measures of firm internationalization, digital transformation, financial and governance characteristics, mechanism variables (financial distress risk and slack resources), family governance indicators (ownership concentration, management involvement, intergenerational succession, and de-familization), and two instrumental variables. This replication package accompanies the paper "Digital Transformation and Family Firm Internationalization: Evidence from China" published in Economic Modelling. The accompanying do-file reproduces all empirical results reported in the paper, including baseline regressions, robustness checks, instrumental variable estimation, propensity score matching, mechanism analysis, and heterogeneity analysis.
