EXECUTIVE SUMMARY HALO™ is the world's first tethered-hovering personal companion robot, engineered for fall prevention, elderly safety, emotional companionship, personal micro-climate comfort, whole-home mobility, continuous indoor hovering via ceiling tether, extended outdoor companionship via person-worn backpack tether, contactless health monitoring, and universal AI personalities through the ChatBox™ cartridge system. Version 9.0 unifies three published works into one ecosystem — the HALO platform, the ChatBox universal cartridge, and the Companion Drone tethered-telepresence system — under a single doctrine: HALO is always tethered to something it protects. Indoors, the home. Outdoors, the human. Between the two, it travels as a bird does: hopping perch to perch. Launch target remains $1,499, scaling to $899 at volume. The complete reference implementation accompanies this paper as published source code. SYSTEM IDENTITY HALO defines a new robotics category: a hovering, emotionally aware AI companion for everyday life. Floor robots are low-perspective and obstruction-prone; smart speakers are disembodied and stationary; conventional drones are loud, unsafe, and endurance-limited. HALO answers all three with a quiet, high-vantage, emotionally present, climate-comforting, perpetually powered companion — the first truly embodied household AI, now specified to the level of running code. POWER ARCHITECTURE — ALWAYS TETHERED TO SOMETHING Indoor: The 300-Volt Ceiling Tether The Retractable Ceiling Tether System™ ("Light-Fixture Mode") delivers power through its 4 mm flat ribbon at approximately 300 volts DC — the electric-vehicle approach: thin conductors carrying kilowatt-class power with ease. Safety follows EV doctrine in full. Ground-fault interruption at the ceiling reel trips at 6 milliamperes of leakage. The magnetic quick-release de-energises the ribbon within three milliseconds of separation, tension anomaly, overcurrent, or arc signature — a snapped, snagged, or grabbed tether is instantly dead, latching off until manually reset. The guard logic runs redundantly at both the reel and onboard; either side may kill power. All other Version 8.0 reel specifications stand: 15 cm fixture diameter, 1.2 kg, constant-tension motor, single-screw fan-mount installation, ~$120 cost add-on at scale. Outdoor: The Backpack Tether (Companion Drone Integration) Outdoors, HALO tethers to the person. The backpack power subsystem, absorbed from the Companion Drone disclosure, feeds HALO through a 40–60 gram, 18–20 AWG, high-flex breakaway cable (5–8 lb magnetic release, swivel joints, frangible weak points, snag-avoidance and tension alerts). Tiered packs provide Standard (4–6 h), Extended (8–12 h), and Ultra (12–24 h) runtimes with hot-swappable modules and optional solar augmentation — replacing the former 2–4 hour battery-only outdoor limit.
