Preferential map – acute pollution

Priority maps for efforts to combat acute pollution are a tool for prioritising efforts in case of acute pollution along the coast. The mapping layers show priority environmental resources, and this means that efforts can be managed towards the highest priority areas. Users are all leading or directing an effort against acute pollution – the Norwegian Coastal Administration for the national emergency preparedness, private enterprises and intermunicipal committees against acute pollution (IUA) for minor cases of acute pollution. The Preferred Property Map largely follows the MOB-Sjø methodology. Data is displayed at monthly resolution, and the view is based on grid. The colour of the individual route shows how high priority the route is in case of acute pollution. The model uses four criteria to rank environmental resources; conservation value, vulnerability, naturalness and replaceability (economic). For each basic data set, values are set for each criterion, with monthly resolution. Monthly resolution is central because many biological resources have varying vulnerabilities throughout the year. The service is updated monthly, with the exception of July.
