This dataset is developed for and used in the manuscript titled “Improved modelling of mountain snowpacks with spatially distributed precipitation bias correction derived from historical reanalysis” by Manon von Kaenel and Steve Margulis (citation forthcoming).
The snow water equivalent (SWE) estimates for each experiment (Reference, Uncorrected, Uniform, Case A, Case B, Case B + fSCA, Case B + SD) are stored in netCDF format (*.nc files). The files for each experiment are organized in subfolders organized by WY, tile location, and variable. The data have a spatial resolution of 16 arcseconds a daily time step. The period of record for the Reference, Uncorrected, Uniform, Case A, Case B, and Case B + fSCA experiments ranges from WY (water year) 1985 to 2021. The Case B + SD experiment ranges from WY 2015 to 2017. The output files are organized within two 1 degree x 1 degree tiles that cover the study domain. . For Reference, Case B + SD, and Case B + fSCA, only the posterior estimates are included; and for Case A and Case B, only the prior estimates are included. The ensemble mean is provided for each experiment-year. For WY 2017 in Case B, Case B + SD, and Case B + fSCA, the full set of ensemble statistics (ensemble mean, standard deviation, median, and interquartile range) is provided as a sample and to match Figure 3 in the accompanying publication.
Additionally, information pertaining to the precipitation bias correction (posterior b) is included for the Reference dataset. These files follow the same directory structure and data resolutions as for the SWE estimates, and are stored under the “B_CV_Cvis_Weights” subfolder for each WY. For each water year and tile, the file labeled “B_CV_CVis_PRIOR” includes the 100 ensemble values for the prior b distribution, and the file labeled “WEIGHTS” includes the posterior weights for all ensemble members. The mean posterior b value for each pixel-year can be calculated as: sum(prior bj * weightj) where j is each ensemble member.
