资源简介:
Extinction of Global Positioning System (GPS) signals has been observed at GPS sites located near erupting volcanoes as a decrease in the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of recieved signals. While this effect has been used to detect volcanic ash plumes, the physical processes causing the signal extinction were not well understood. A simulation was developed to model absorption and scattering from ash particles in a plume which included plume density, composition, and charging as input parameters. The results of this simulation for a range of input parameters for the November 23rd, 2013 eruption at Etna volcano.are included in this dataset and have been used in the article "Modeling GPS Signal Propagation through Volcanic Plumes."
Methods
Data from the forward model for GPS signal extinction described in "Modeling GPS Signal Propagation through Volcanic Plumes."
