In this study, 16S rDNA gene sequencing technology was used to explore the effects of different altitude and hypoxia treatment time on the structure and diversity of gut microbiota in rats. FMT experiments were used to clarify further the relationship between gut microbiota and high-altitude hypoxic environment. So far, only a few studies have been reported on linking the changes in the structure and diversity of gut microbiota with the changes caused by the real plateau hypoxic environment. This study combined effect of various hypoxic factors (such as acute hypoxia, chronic hypoxia, moderate-altitude, and high-altitude) indicated significant changes in the gut microbiota under high-altitude hypoxia. This study established a foundation for further research on the initiation and development of diseases and drug metabolism under high-altitude hypoxia.
