Drug eluting bioresorbable stents treat narrowed arteries by keeping them open, release drug, degrade and adsorbed by body after fulfilling their function to avoid long-term medical complications. In this study, novel cytocompatible composites as 2D degradable stent models were developed, each consisting of a Mg alloy exhibiting strong tensile strength as a substrate, Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) polymer coating potentially serving a potential drug matrix role and supporting endothelial cell response as a top layer, and a silane polymer coating to reduce corrosion rate of Mg alloys and enhance cytocompatibility as an intermediate layer.
